Benefits to the Children Centre

Family Support/Holistic Approach

Here in Listowel Family Resource Children’s Centre we believe that quality early childhood care and education must value and support the role of parents. Open, honest and respectful partnership with parents is essential in promoting the best interests of the child. Mutual partnership contributes to establishing harmony and continuity between the diverse environments the child experiences in the early years. The development of connections and interactions between the early childhood setting, parents, the extended family and the wider community also adds to the enrichment of early childhood experiences by reflecting the environment in which the child lives and grows.

Food and Nutrition

We believe well balanced and nutritious food is necessary for proper development of children. Children’s medical and personal dietary requirements are respected and will be catered for on an individual basis. We provide breakfast, hot lunch and healthy substantial snacks in all areas of our Children’s Centre.

Our meals are prepared in house from the best quality of meat, poultry, fish and fresh vegetables delivered from local suppliers. All food served has low or no added sugar & salt. Our menu follows the Food & Nutrition Guidelines for Pre-School Services recommended by the Department of Health and Children.

CURRICULUM AND ACTIVITIES

The curriculum is play based & age appropriate and planned by our dedicated fully qualified team of childcare professionals. We adhere to the principles of Siolta the National Quality Framework. All planning is based on the needs and interests of the children in our care. Activities on offer are planned using Aistear’s themes, aims and learning goals. These are divided into four main areas Well Being, Identity & Belonging, Communication & Exploring & Thinking.

PR- SCHOOL INSPECTION

Listowel Family Resource Children’s Centre is notified to the Child and Family Agency that we are providing childcare services. We are inspected regularly by the Child and Family Agency’s Early Years Inspection Team and we comply fully with the Pre-School Regulations as set out in the Child Care (Pre-School Services) (No 2) Regulations 2006 and the Child Care (Pre-School Services) (No 2) Amendment Regulations 2016. Our most recent inspection took place from the 24th & 25th July 2017.

Homework

Children are supported in doing their homework daily. We take into account the manner in which individual children learn, and encourage a positive attitude towards homework. Children are encouraged to learn good habits and take responsibility for doing their homework. It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the homework is completed daily. There is allocated time for homework followed by play and activities.

Activities

Our activities are centred on areas such as arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor sports, group and individual games, reading, sand/water play, dress up, imaginary play, computers, football, drama and cookery, organised outings and group projects. Our secure outdoor area ensures each child gets the opportunity to be outdoors daily. The children are involved in designing activity plans which ensures that the programme is child led.

Transport

Children attending local schools are collected by bus and transported to Listowel Family Resource Centre. Children can either be collected by parents at the end of the day or safely taken home by bus. A staff member always travels on the bus. All staff have ‘Passenger Assist’ training completed.

OUT OF SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

We provide childcare during school holidays (Halloween Break, Easter Break, Mid-terms, Summer Holidays) in the form of camps for older children and a School Readiness Programme for pre-school age children. We combine structured educational sessions with fun and games.

The emphasis on all our Camps is on taking part. Our daily programme is designed to ensure excitement, fun and variety in each day. We are proud of our camps, they have been tried and tested and we know that our programme will offer your child a very worthwhile experience.
